WHAT IS SODIUM BROMIDE??
Sodium bromide is an inorganic compound in its dry form a white crystalline powder. The chemical formula for sodium bromide in NaBr. It does not occur as natural solid due to its solubility, it is extracted from ocean water along with chlorides, iodides and halites. It possesses anticonvulsant properties of any bromide salt and one of the most common salts of hydrobromic acid.   Sodium bromide is a brominating agent mainly used in organic synthetic reactions as a bromide source.

APPLICATIONS OF SODIUM BROMIDE

1. SODIUM BROMIDE AS AN ANTICONVULSANT

Sodium bromide is a halide anticonvulsant used in veterinary medicine for the treatment of epilepsy. Sodium bromide is used as a primary or add-on anticonvulsant in dogs. The suspected mechanism of action of bromide anticonvulsants is hyperpolarization of the neuron via the movement of the bromide ions intracellularly through chloride channels. Bromide is administered as a compounded sodium bromide. Bromide is not metabolized and is excreted unchanged in the urine. Sodium bromide has been used with success in veterinary medicine, decreasing seizure frequency in epileptic dogs.

2. HOW TO INCREASE THE EFFICIENCY OF OIL AND GAS DRILLING?

Sodium bromide is a monovalent salt thereby its preferred for drilling into oil reservoir. Divalent bromides cannot be used as they form a layer of precipitate and cause scaling which hampers the process of oil extraction. Sodium bromide is used to prepare high-density, clear drilling, completion, packer and workover fluids. These brine fluids are used in deep, high pressure oil and gas wells they do not plug the formation in workover and completion operations, as conventional drilling mud can do. Such bromide salt brine usage has led to higher production rates and longer production lifetimes. In some cases where calcium and zinc brine cause precipitation in the carbon dioxide layer and it makes oil drilling a cumbersome process then sodium bromide is used as it causes maximum amount of swelling. It is extensively used in situations where formation of waters contains high levels of sulfate or carbonate that may precipitate with the calcium ion. Sodium bromide is often a good choice for the preparation of oil drilling chemical.

HOW TO CLEAR ALGAE FROM POOL?
Sodium Bromide when used with RXSOL- CHLORINE Tablet as a catalyst to convert the bromides into the potent algae killer, hypobromous acid. Called a Chlorine Enhancer  sodium bromide creates a synergy of high chlorine and high bromine levels. Sodium bromide works well with yellow algae, or green algae that is not responding to very high levels of chlorine alone. both free bromine and free chlorine are present and active in the pool this synergy gives improved oxidation performance which changes the configuration of algae's protein.
