FAQ

Coldwash for cooling system cleaning

If the cooling system is contaminated with oil, fat and other greasy deposits then simply make 100 ltr solution of cold wash with water by the proportion of 10 Ltr Coldwash in to 100 Ltrs water ( or depend on contamination of oil deposits on the surface, cold wash ratio can vary 5 10% in freshwater ). Then circulate emulsion ( prepared solution of the cold wash with water ) for 8 - 12 hrs. And if solution temperature can maintain 50 - 60 degree, then cleaning performance can be increased within a short period of time. Finally, drain all soiled cleaning liquid followed by fresh water until outcome water remains clear.

Cleaning of the cooling system becomes compulsory when system required DESCALING, removal of scale deposits.  As oily surface doesn't allow descaler to react with lime deposits.

Coal cargo to Urea cargo.

Question :
From Scorpio Operations Supramax Bulk.

One of our Ultramax vessels is calling Deendayal (ex-Kandla) for discharge of coal and we are looking to supply chemicals to clean holds for next cargo which is Urea.  Please revert with products; competitive rates; etc.

Best regards

Mrs Prabha Suvarna, Scorpio Marine Management Pvt. Ltd (as agents only).

Answer :
RX Tuff Extra foam Cleaning detergent effectively cleans coal dust and powder from hold surface area by using simple either by high pressure/ low pressure machine. But if question come to load for clear cargo like urea then one tricky option is most common by experienced person.  First of all mix water with RX Tuff High Foam (A =  1 Ltr RX Tuff High Foam and 10 Ltrs Water ) Then use equal proprtion of Stabilized sodium Hypo chlorite in to the "  A " solution to make  " B " solution. Then follow general Cleaning Tips -

The hold cleaning process can be made easy by adopting these 3 steps-

First of all clean entire area by dry sweeping, this will not only helps to get cargo ready fast but also helps to reduce cleaner quantity requirements.

Then apply " B " chemical cleaner to reacts or neutralised residue content.

Finally high-pressure water wash will help to get optimum results.

Coal Stain cleaning is difficult with ordinary cleaner. Our regular work with such residues given us opportunities to make its cleaning easy without scrubbing.

Our RX TUFF High foam  cleaner is principally based on Alkaline emulsifiers.

Using Procedure of Coal Remover

Coal remover may be used concentrated or diluted with water, depending on the degree of contamination, the surface area to be treated, the desired degree of cleaning and the available downtime. Actually, the user is the best one capable to regulate the quantity and concentration to be used for the situation at hand. In any case, when the accumulation is not heavy, a 50% solution with water must be used. Otherwise, Coal Remover can be used undiluted especially when the deposition is heavy and hard spots persist.

Cleaning Procedure

Conventional cleaning methods such as a brush, hard sponge, thick and hard broom and /or a mop can be used on heavy-duty and hard stain deposits. Note that for heavy accumulations the cleaning procedure might be necessary to be repeated until the results are satisfactory. Furthermore, is important to keep in mind that 1 litre of Coal Remover is sufficient to cover a surface area of 8–10 square meters.

NOTE ::: -- Let this product soak into the surface for 30-45 minutes. Then using a high-powered spray washer blast the surfaces until the stains and discolouration is gone.

A  water-based heavy duty alkaline Coal cleaner is helpful for removal of  stains of coal. Also contains a specialized blend of synthetic. surfactants The cleaning should take place as soon as the discharge is complete to maximize effectiveness.

to rtiwari

Good day,

Kindly advise the chemicals required and quantity for cleaning of cargo holds (Panamax) loaded coal to grain standard.
Reply :
1st segment to clean and neutralize coal rsidue :
Coal contain sulphur and many more others materials which is resulting corrosive effect on metal and painted surface. In chemical terms its proper cleaning means not only removal of its deposit to make surface clear and bright, But chemically neutralization effect also required. Our RX Tuff High foam ( Advanced formula of ALKAATUFF high foam ) having chemical neutralization formula as well as during cleaning process with high pressure machine resulting high dense foam to clean vertical surface of hold effectively.

2nd segment to prepare hold up to Grain standard :
After completion 1st step, if cargo hold can be rinse with diluted chlorine ( ppm level, 1 Ltr to 1000 Ltr Fresh water )  water followed by fresh water rinsing will result  cargo hold for Grain loading standard.

3rd Required quantities :
For general cleaning each hold required 150 to 250 Ltr of RX Tuff High Foam ( New formula ) and 50 Ltr chlorine water ( Concentrated one up to 15% )

Note : Rusted and paint scale Area / part cleaning must required before using of any cleaner including 1st segment suggestion. For RUST REMOVING our product code is  ( RXSOL-16-1088-025 ) and for Paint removing chemicals our code is RXSOL-18-1013-025

General cleaning tips :

Preparing Cargo Holds for loading Grain depends on the previous cargo.

1. Cargo Holds must be thoroughly cleaned and dry and trace of previous cargo in frames, beams, girders, and other structure.

2. There should not be any loose rust and or paint scale anywhere in the Cargo Holds, Bulkheads, upper and lower hopper spaces, underneath of Hatch Covers and tank top.

3. There should not be traces of live & dead insect & weevils.

4. Bilge covers should be cleaned of any cargo residues and have enough drain holes. Bilge cover needs to be grain tight but not watertight.

5. Bilge well should be cleaned of previous cargo dray and odour free.

6. Bilge suction should be operational at all the times.

Removal of cargo residue:

Air Blow from top using high pressure air to reach all accessible corners. Cargo to be swept, scrapped & collected in a drum. Attention to be given

• Australian ladder and its platforms and stanchions

• Beams and girders under cross decks

• Frames, beams, girders, and other structure

• Large pipes holding brackets behind the pipes

Then Cleaning and sweeping coal cargo from the hold as maximum possible by HELPER / Crew member

Loose Rust & Paint Scale:

A sharp hand scraper shall be used to take off the peeling rust & paint scale

Special attention to following areas:

• Australian ladder and its platforms, hand rails and stanchions

• Australian ladder and its platforms and stanchions

• Beams and girders under cross decks

• Frames, beams, girders, and other structure

• Large pipes holding brackets behind the pipes

• Hatch coamings and under hatch covers

• Booby hatches & cover

Tank top loose rust

Tank top should be free of loose rust and cargo residue

Any rust which can be scraped by hand scrapers should be removed.

The tank top should be rinsed with fresh water

Cleanliness of cargo hold bilges
