Sodium hexametaphosphate is a commonly used source of orthophosphate anion used to precipitate calcium in low-pressure boilers. With dispersants the calcium phosphate becomes a fluidized sludge capable of being blown down and out of the boiler before the calcium can form a deposit.

Take sample in 2 cells with 10 ml of Standard Solution of DEHA.

Then in both cell add 6 drops DEHA Test Solution and mix. Then add 1.0 ml (25 drops) DEHA Indicator Solution and mix.

Place the cell in a dark area and wait for 10 minutes.

Rotate disc until fully colour  is obtained. Record disc reading.

Diethyl hydroxyl amine DEHA or other oxygen scavengers in the sample buffered between pH 4 and 10 react with ferric iron in the Fe(III) solution to produce ferrous ion in an amount

that is equivalent to the DEHA concentration. This solution then reacts with ferrozine reagent, which forms a purple colour with ferrous iron that is proportional to the concentration of the oxygen scavenger.
